Valentines day 2019 LATAM CargoSANTIAGO, Chile: February 12, 2019. LATAM Cargo says it has operated the equivalent of 140 B767-300 freighter flights from Colombia and Ecuador to carry more than 9,000 tons of flowers to North and South America, Europe, Asia and Oceania in time for Valentine’s Day this week.

Miami received 8,050 tons, equivalent to 88 percent of total flower shipments, followed by Amsterdam with 500 tons (6.0 percent) plus Hong Kong, Shanghai, Beijing, Madrid and Paris.

To cope with demand, the airline increased its Bogota and Medellin freighter departures from 12 to 23, and from 10 to 31 ex-Quito - carrying a total of 4,180 tons from Colombia and 4,920 tons from Ecuador.

Commenting on the airline’s flower season operation that peaks on Mother’s Day in May, LATAM Cargo Commercial director for Central and Northern South America Felipe Caballero said the combination of expertise, experience and flexibility enabled the company to increase frequencies to meet the extra demand while maintaining the requisite flower cold chain. “Through this operation, we are also helping to boost Colombia and Ecuador’s position as major global producers of fresh flowers,” he added.
