SINGAPORE: April 08, 2019. KLN (Singapore) a subsidiary of the Kerry Logistics Network, has signed an MoU with Laos’s Sitthi Logistics to develop a dry port in the Vientiane Logistics Park.

Kerry Logistics Signs MOU with Sitthi LogisticsThe move is part of a plan by Kerry to speed up growth in ASEAN by developing an integrated Greater Mekong Region platform for Thailand, Cambodia, Myanmar and Laos.

The dry port will cover 35 hectares and will be developed in phases for the transfer of cargoes at Vientiane, which connects the railway lines between China and Thailand from Kunming to Bangkok.

The company claims an efficient dry port is not only expected to help attract investment to Vientiane and its surrounding areas, but also turn the city into a major economic hub along the Belt and Road trade routes.

“We are fortunate to have in Sitthi Logistics a strong local partner,” declared Kerry Logistics chairman George Yeo. “We are proud to play a role in the development of Laos and what will become an important economic corridor between China and Southeast Asia.”

Kerry said the Lao government was providing incentives and favourable regulations to enable the country’s economy to benefit from the Kunming-Bangkok rail link by building an efficient logistics centre in Vientiane.
