BONN/CINCINNATI: May 28, 2019. The first of 14 new B777 freighters ordered by DHL has begun revenue service from Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport to Bahrain.

The aircraft, operated by Atlas Air Worldwide Holdings' subsidiary Southern Air, is intended to replace B747-400 capacity and connect major DHL hubs in Cincinnati, Leipzig and HongKong. Three more aircraft are due for delivery this year.

DHLNO1B777F"The delivery of our first B777 freighter marks an important milestone in our mission to overhaul our intercontinental fleet. This efficient, long-range and high-capacity freighter will enable us to serve even more markets with non-stop flights and significantly contributes to greater sustainability in line with our sustainability strategy ‘zero emission by 2050’,” said DHL Express CEO John Pearson.

In a related announcement, DHL Global Forwarding, Deutsche Post DHL Group's air and ocean freight business, has launched ‘myDHLi Quote & Book’, a 24/7 online service for comparing quotations and making instant bookings for air and ocean freight, as well as door-to-door shipments.

For airfreight, customers can choose between DHL Air Connect, with a typical delivery time of 3-5 days, and DHL Air Economy, an option that uses alternative carriers and routes to deliver in about 5-7 days. Both booking options cover general cargo up to 2,000 kgs per shipment. For ocean freight, instant quotes are generated for LCL shipments up to 10,000 kgs / 20 cubic metres per shipment.

DHL says customers can save quotes, valid up to 30 days, and share them with selected recipients via e-mail.
